Drama and science fiction star in the latest Netflix

Netflix wastes no time when it comes to renewing its catalog. This week, the popular streaming platform offers an interesting list of premieres marked by drama and science fiction, and dominated by feature films.

From a documentary that revisits the myth of Marilyn Monroe, through an anime and a Turkish erotic drama, to a Spanish comedy, these films promise to keep you glued to your TV, tablet or PC.

But as expected, in these proposals the series also make an appearance with two interesting and risky productions, one of them in its final round of episodes.

For this reason, we leave the preamble here and say: armchair, screen, popcorn and action! Enjoy original stories and great performances.

“The Marilyn Monroe Mystery: The Unreleased Tapes”

Just today (April 27), this documentary arrives on Netflix that tries to reconstruct the last hours of Marilyn Monroe’s life with her own voice, using the audio tapes left by the renowned actress and to which there was no access until now.

Directed by Emma Cooper, also responsible for “The disappearance of Madeleine McCann”, offers a new version of the investigation into the death of the iconic Hollywood star of the 50s.

As is known, the death of Marilyn Monroe was declared a suicide due to an overdose of barbiturates (August 4, 1962). In the middle of 2022, however, the case still has many unanswered questions. Duration: 1 hour 41 minutes.

“365 days: That day”

Starring Anna-Maria Sieklucka and Michele Morrone, it is a sequel to the Turkish erotic drama «365 days», based on the bestseller «365 days«, by Blanka Lipinska, which achieved great ratings success on Netflix.

As you may recall, the original film follows the relationship between Laura and Massimo, a Sicilian crime boss, after he kidnaps her and puts her in jail. The synopsis of the new film highlights that the relationship between the protagonists “is now stronger than ever, but Massimo’s family ties and a mysterious man who wants to conquer Laura complicate their relationship.”

It is worth noting that the original film was heavily criticized by moviegoers and the general public for its depiction of sexual violence and the apparent glorification of criminal activity. It debuts on April 27 and has a duration: 1 hour 52 minutes.

After its premiere at the famous Berlinale, this anime film by Tetsurō Araki (“Death Note”; “Attack on Titan”; “Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress”) arrives at the Netflix catalog, and whose original title is “Baburu”.

Free version of the classic children’s tale “The Little Mermaid”, by Danish Hans Christian Andersen, the film combines parkour, science fiction and romance within a unique dystopian setting.

The story, according to the official synopsis, takes place in Tokyo, after it rained bubbles on Earth that nullified gravity. Cut off from the outside world, the city became a battleground for a group of young people who lost their families and compete in parkour teams by jumping from one building to another.

“Hibiki, famous for his reckless style, carelessly slips into a move and plunges into a floating sea. But Uta, a girl with mysterious powers, saves his life. And then, there is a singular sound that only the two of them can hear. The encounter gives rise to a revelation that will change the world, “says the synopsis. Thursday 28 arrives; duration: 1 hour 41 minutes.

“Mother’s Love”

This Spanish comedy was directed by Paco Caballero and stars Carmen Machi and Quim Gutiérrez.

The story focuses on José Luis (Quim Gutiérrez) and his mother Mari Carmen (Carmen Machi). After the first one is left standing at the altar, his mother, who has a compulsive tendency to overprotect him, asks him to go together to what would have been their honeymoon so as not to lose the money for the trip. While he couldn’t be more miserable, his mom is enjoying the best vacation of her life.

“They are two people who make the right trip, but for the wrong reasons,” the winner of the Goya Award for Best Newcomer for “AzulOscuroCasiNegro” told Europa Press about his character. It opens on Friday 29. Duration: 1 hour 50 minutes.

“Lea’s 7 Lives”

Léa stumbles upon the remains of Ismael, a teenager who disappeared 30 years earlier. The fact of her somehow transports her to 1991. That trip is repeated for seven days, although she wakes up each time in the body of a different person.

In the midst of this, the young woman will seek to unravel the mystery of the young man’s death in order to avoid it and change her future.

That is the premise of this French Netflix series, starring Raika Hazanavicius, Khalil Gharbia and Marguerite Thiam Donnadieu, among others, and created by Charlotte Sanson. It consists of 7 episodes and premieres on Thursday 28.

The award-winning series starring Jason Bateman and Laura Linney premieres this Friday the 29th on Netflix the second part of its fourth and final season.

As you may remember, the premise of this fiction focuses on Marty and Wendy Byrde, a financial advisor and his wife. The first drags his family from Chicago to the lakes of Ozark, Missouri to launder 500 million dollars in five years and reassure a drug boss.

In this final cycle, the Byrde family is in danger and it seems that they will not be able to get out of the experience. “Ruth has reached a point of no return, and it is almost certain that she will take on the cartel. Mel Sattam is one step away from discovering the Byrde family’s allegiance to the cartel as he continues his search for Helen Pierce. He also knows about the connection of the special agent Maya Miller with the family and with her will to go it alone demonstrated by the arrest of Omar Navarro », summarizes the argument in Diez Minutos magazine. 7 episodes.
