Five bitches and a cat go viral with costumes for Christmas, Halloween, Paquitas da Xuxa and even Nossa Senhora de Fátima, in Fortaleza | Ceará

A four-legged sextet — consisting of five bitches and a cat — has racked up millions of views on social media. The videos of the animals wearing various costumes has already earned thousands of followers between TikTok and Instagram. They always appear dressed in different themes, such as Christmas, Halloween, Paquitas, Monica’s Gang and even as saints. On the 13th of May, the animals appeared dressed as Our Lady of Fátima, a day that marks one of Mary’s apparitions.

It all started as a joke, according to one of the tutors, Luciana Athayde. “We posted a picture of them on social media with some fruit on their heads, playing fruit salad. People started laughing because they found Zara [a gata] funny, because she is among the dogs, and secondly because she makes faces and mouths”, recalled the businesswoman.

The tutor said that, with the good repercussion of this first image, she decided to continue taking photos and videos of the group and publish them on TikTok, which quickly began to attract followers. Luciana has the help of her two daughters, Luana and Isabela, to take care of the animals.

Currently, the sextet has dressed as Our Lady of Fatima, San Francisco, Christmas, Easter, Paquitas da Xuxa, Halloween, Powerpuff Girls, Monica’s Gang and several other costumes.

“I like to post on commemorative dates, such as indigenous people’s day, Christmas, Our Lady of Fátima’s day. They also rocked a lot in Pink October. With that, their TikTok grew very fast”, adds Luciana.

The group became famous by the name “Sexteto de 4 Paws”, but in fact, it is currently composed of eight animals: four golden retrievers (all females), a poodle, two cats and a cat. The last two cats arrived when the sextet was already known, and Luciana preferred not to change the name of the group.

“It all started with Lola (the poodle), who is the oldest. Of all the eight, Lola is the only one who was bought; the goldens (retrievers), the cats, they are all adopted. Lolinha will turn 12 next weekend, I’m going to celebrate her birthday”, said the businesswoman.

The owner explained that the second dog to arrive was Sophie, now five years old, donated by her niece, who had a golden retriever, shortly after the litter was born. The third, Jolie, came when Luciana met another tutor, who was leaving for Canada, and needed to donate the animal.

“In between that break, Zara appeared, who is the funniest, sullen cat. She came with a purpose. My youngest daughter was terrified of a cat, because she was attacked by one, so she panicked. I talked to the psychologist, and he said that the best medicine was to get her a cat”, so Luciana adopted Zara at a fair held by a pet shop.

The fifth member of the sextet that arrived at Luciana’s house was Chloe, who was born in the same litter as Jolie, but the guardian had to donate her. “There, everything was ready. It closed a sextet”, recalled Luciana.

The second cat, Blue, was found by Luciana when she was leaving Parque do Cocó, the main urban park in Fortaleza. “But Blue arrived. I was leaving Cocó and a guy told me ‘look, there’s a box under your car’. When I looked, it was three cats that someone had placed. I brought it home, took care of it, fed it and put it for donation, but Blue stayed and became a family member”, explained the tutor.

The seventh to reach the family was Zoe, found trapped in a storm drain. “She was dying. I took it to the vet, I was going to put it up for adoption, but my daughter got attached”, she highlights.

With Zoe’s arrival, Luciana believed that the group was closed, with the seven animals. “But a friend of mine told me ‘Luciana, I have a present for you’, and when I arrived it was another golden, a one-month-old baby”. Thus, Lori joined the group, the last member.

Success on social networks

A video that went viral and brought a lot of followers was when Jolie participated in a beauty contest – which she won. The production had a lot of impact on TikTok, making the profile go from 100,000 to 300,000 followers at the time.

The care for the animals and the group’s success even led Luciana to change her career. She worked with event organization, but the sector was greatly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Girls were always super ‘pretty’, and people were very curious. So what happened? I opened a dog clothes store”, explains the businesswoman.

Participation in events

In addition to social networks, the sextet also participates in events and campaigns for companies. This activity began when a mall in the capital invited them to a photo shoot.

“Because of that, people started calling me to events. We never charged anything, we just asked that, if they wanted, someone would donate food to a shelter, always to help other animals”, explains Luciana.

“Now we are often invited to hospitals. We did it at Luís de França last week and it was a success, because a psychologist there — who is a follower of mine — called me asking if I could take the girls. He said he had two girls undergoing cancer treatment, and one of them had been living in the hospital for months,” adds the tutor.
