The second edition of the Virtual Forum of Pediatrics of the Federal Council of Medicine (CFM) will discuss the reflexes of the Covid-19 pandemic in the practice of the medical specialty. Scheduled for August 12, the event will focus on two aspects: the repercussions of the health crisis on the mental health of children and adolescents and the current scenario of respiratory infections in Pediatrics.
“Pediatricians from all states will have the opportunity to discuss the health of children and adolescents in this pandemic context. We know that there were many challenges imposed and, based on this Forum, we intend to create and expand working groups to discuss and present alternatives for differentiated health care for children and adolescents”, adds Donizetti Giamberardino, coordinator of the Technical Chamber of Pediatrics at CFM. .
According to a recent report released by the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef), it is estimated that, worldwide, at least one in seven children and adolescents aged between 10 and 19 years old live with a diagnosed mental disorder; more than 1.6 billion have suffered some loss of education, with at least 463 million unable to access remote learning.
“For children, isolation translated into a loss of the comforting routine of school, sports, recreation, friends, and opportunities for social and emotional development,” the report highlights. In addition, social isolation and distancing from the school environment hampered the learning process and the development of children’s speech and language, especially in the age group of up to 2 years.
Programming – After the opening, the roundtable “Mental Health” will be held, which will discuss the impact caused by the Covid-19 pandemic on the cognitive development of children and adolescents; behavior and personality disorders in the pandemic and post-pandemic; sleep and communication disorders; anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation; among other points.
Also in the afternoon, a round table will be held on the current scenario of respiratory infections in Pediatrics, with a broad debate on the most recent epidemiological data on respiratory infections; the current vaccination coverage of the National Immunization Program (PNI); the myths and truths of childhood immunization for Covid-19; and post-covid morbidity in children and adolescents.
The event is completely free. Access will be by prior registration and certificates of participation in the forum will later be made available to those who follow the activity through the Zoom platform.
