Lisbon Book Fair. Thousands of books to conquer readers

The jacaranda trees at Parque Eduardo VII are no longer in bloom, as in almost all the fairs in the book of our lives, but the opening of its 91st edition, scheduled for this Thursday, promises to bring a lot of excitement to the center of Lisbon. In all, 744 publishing brands will be represented, gathered in a total of 131 exhibitors, spread over 325 pavilions. This year’s edition is the second largest in the history of the fair in terms of pavilions (only surpassed by 2019, the last one before the pandemic) and the largest ever in terms of editorial offer. “For the second year running, we are going to have a Book Fair different from what visitors are used to”, says Pedro Sobral, vice-president of the Portuguese Association of Publishers and Booksellers (APEL), an entity that, like previous editions, co-organizes this event in partnership with the Lisbon City Council. The challenge of adapting the fair to the sanitary circumstances in which we still live was compensated, according to Pedro Sobral, “for the participation of many new publishers, booksellers and seals that allow us to have the largest editorial offer ever”.
