THE Sporting’s pre-season is already in the final stretch, but with many cases of surplus players to be resolved. After the internship in Lagos, Algarve, the green and white club returns to Lisbon, however, the squad under Rúben Amorim continues to ‘lose weight’.
Although dossiers such as Rafael Camacho, Gonzalo Plata or Luiz Phellype have already been resolved, the Alvalade club still has many players to place, and there are some cases forwarded, with some contract terminations on the table.
Most of these players have been short at Sporting and ended up not meeting SAD’s expectations. In this sense, the administration of the green and whites is trying to clean this list as soon as possible, something that could save many millions of euros in salaries for the lions and that can be reinvested in reinforcements.
O Sports by the Minute now shows you a list of players that have already been placed by SAD leonina and the cases still unresolved in Alvalade.
The Brazilian forward has already found his place and will represent the Japanese at FC Tokyo until the end of the season. He is on a new loan, after having been on loan to Santa Clara and OFI Creta last season.
After a productive period on loan at Real Valladolid last season, the Ecuadorian international was permanently at the Spanish club, which this season rose to La Liga. The lions will receive around eight million euros for the winger.
Recruited from Liverpool in 2019/20, the Portuguese never managed to impose himself at the Alvalade club. Concessions to Rio Ave and B SAD followed. This time he returned abroad and was loaned to the Greeks of Aris.
The Argentinian midfielder, once an important figure for the lions, returned to Alvalade after having terminated his contract following the invasion of Alcochete, but he never prevailed. He was loaned to Alavés and Mallorca and now, according to the sports press, his contract is terminated.
Another player who will keep the pass in his hand. He was a leading figure in the 2018/19 season and remained a bet in the following season, although without the regularity of the previous season. The arrival of Antonio Adán to Alvalade took away his importance and the Brazilian has not played an official game for more than two seasons. Still, it remains a drag on the lions’ coffers.
Hired at the request of Jorge Silas in the 2019/20 season, the Brazilian midfielder did not stay long in Alvalade. After the loan to Crotone in 2020/21, the canarian was transferred to Al-Raed and, according to the national sports press, he should continue in the Arab club this season.
The Algerian’s return to Alvalade last season generated great enthusiasm among the Leo fans, but the striker was never a primary option for Rúben Amorim. In addition, the forward was incompatible with the technician and the departure should take place this summer.
It was never a real option while in Alvalade. He went on loan to Sporting de Braga in the second half of 2020/21 and last season he was on loan to Middlesbrough. He does not count for the new season and in recent days has been associated with Estrela Vermelha and Fenerbahçe, by Jorge Jesus.
He was the shadow of Matheus Reis and Nuno Santos last season, ending up being hired permanently this summer. He’s going to be given up – he’s interested in England – but SAD Leon sees him as an option for the future.
Another player who failed to impose himself on this return to Alvalade. He played 24 games in the two seasons he played in his return to Portuguese football and ended up on loan at Lorient in 2020/21, not playing any games in France. It was an option for appeal at Boavista last season and this year it should be transferred again. Paços de Ferreira is in the front line to sign him.
After a season of less use in 2018/19, the Ivorian was even a regular bet in the following season. However, the midfielder was guided in the 2020/21 season, followed by loans, first to Huesca, from Spain, and then to Zulte Waregem, from Belgium. He has a high salary and the termination of his contract, valid until 2024, is on the table.
Entering the final year of his contract, Jovane is a different case from the rest of his teammates. After a season on loan to Lazio, Sporting wants to transfer him permanently. The lions ask for five million euros for the player who was associated with Olympiacos, Besiktas and Sporting de Braga.
A product of Academia de Alcochete, the central defender is seen as a bet for the future, but he is covered up in Rúben Amorim’s squad by names like Coates, Gonçalo Inácio, St. Juste and Luís Neto. The loan to continue to grow is the main option. Gil Vicente, Santa Clara and Arouca are watching.
Considered a great promise of the leonine formation, the forward never managed to impose himself in the main formation of the lions, largely because of the numerous offensive options of the club from Alvalade. He was loaned to Almería, Nacional and Rio Ave, and the Vilacondenses president has already made it known that he would like to have the forward in the new season.
Debuted by Rúben Amorim in the main team of the lions last season, the young left winger, 21 years old, started pre-season at Sporting but was left out of the list that went on to train. The arrivals of Trincao and Rochinha took away his space in the lions and he should be given up. In recent days he was taken for granted on loan at Marítimo.
