Baz Luhrman, loved and hated for the intense pace of his films and an overflowing, colorful aesthetic, was catapulted to stardom at Cannes when he presented Strictly Ballroom in the Un Certain Regard section in 1992. Four years later he made an impact with his contemporary version of Romeo and Julieta and is recognized as the only director to have opened the Festival twice, with Moulin Rouge in 2001 and Gatsby in 2013. Elvis will premiere on June 22.
